U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology Offers Support for Development of Educational Materials, Courses on Standards

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is offering support to qualified institutions interested in developing teaching materials and curricula that instruct students in the nature, role and importance of technical standards in modern society and commerce. The programs, which are expected to be funded in the range from $25,000 to $100,000 per year for up to two years, could develop either undergraduate or graduate level curricula.

U.S. EPA releases environmental health program guidelines for schools

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a set of guidelines to help states establish and maintain environmental health programs for schools. Part of EPA’s Healthy Schools program, “Voluntary Guidelines for States: Development and Implementation of a School Environmental Health Program” is aimed at states, school districts, K–12 schools, and individuals, and can be adapted for other school-related institutions, such as childcare centres.

The guidelines address a wide range of environmental health issues of concern to Americans and Canadians including: indoor air quality,drinking water issues, safety hazards related to improperly stored or managed chemicals, natural day lighting, acoustics, and other issues relating to the performance of building occupants.
