Catholic school board getting greener

Alliston Herald - February 9, 2010 - The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board is working to further its commitment to green schools. For more than 16 years the board has had a recycling program in partnership with the Simcoe County District School Board. School Buildings as Learning Tools

Two thirds of the British public think refurbishing and extending the UK's old schools is more environmentally friendly than demolishing and rebuilding, according to a survey carried out by English Heritage. In the survey, 83 per cent of respondents thought local councils should do more to find new uses for old, empty schools, and almost half thought schools with historic character provide a more inspiring educational environment than modern ones. Three in four said historic schools contribute to the identity of a local area. The survey coincided with the launch of two publications by the heritage body. Thirty six zero carbon schools planned for England

London, UK - January 31, 2010 - Pilot green schools are planned for all English regions as part of the implementation of a newly published government Zero Carbon Task Force report. Four zero-carbon schools will be built in each of the nine regions of England by 2016, under plans unveiled last week. (Click on the headline for the text of the official release).
